The village has nearly 7,000 inhabitants and it is located at 1224 m a.s.l.
Some of the surrounding peaks are higher than 3000 m: Tofana 3243 m, Cristallo 3218 m, Sorapìs 3205 m.
Geographically it is included in the Belluno province and it is 72 km from the town of Belluno. It is located between Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige regions, the border between the two regions is at Cimabanche Pass (1530 m), 13 km from Cortina.
How to get to Cortina d'Ampezzo

The fastest way to get to Cortina from Venice:
From June 18th Cortina Express daily shuttle services run three times a day to reach Cortina from Venezia Mestre and Venice Marco Polo Airport and back.
Departure from Venezia Mestre at 11.00 - 2.00 pm- 5.00 pm (15 minutes later from Venice Marco Polo Airport).
Departure from Cortina at 08.30 am - 11.30 am - 2.30 pm.
Estimated time: 2 hours to/from Venice Airport and 2 hours 15 to/from Venezia Mestre.

BY CAR
From Rome: take the highway (Autostrada) A1 Roma-Milano direction Bologna, then take the highway A13 Bologna-Padova, then the highway A4 Milano-Venezia and then A27 to Belluno.
Take the exit Belluno and follow the SS 51 Alemagna direction Dobbiaco and Cortina.
From Austria: take the highway A22 (Autostrada del Brennero) direction south, take the exit Bressanone, then follow direction Dobbiaco and Cortina.

BY TRAIN
Train connections are not very convenient, details can be found on on the WEB pages of TRENITALIA (Italian National Railways) http://www.trenitalia.it
The main railway line is Venezia S. Lucia – Calalzo di Cadore, then transfer to Cortina by Dolomitibus (www.dolomitibus.it), a regional bus service.
The nearest train station is Calalzo di Cadore, 35 km far from Cortina.
The trip from Venice to Cortina takes about 3,5 hours (train+bus).
On the north there is the Fortezza-Dobbiaco railway line. Transfer to Cortina by bus (www.sii.bz.it). From Fortezza to Cortina it takes about 2 hours (train+bus).
From Innsbruck, trains leave each hour from 11,30 am to 8,00 pm. It takes about 4 hours to get to Cortina.
